Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930, in Wapakoneta, Ohio to Stephen Armstrong and Viola Engel. Neil had a younger sister, June and younger brother, Dean. After Neil was born their family moved a lot. They lived in 20 different towns. Neil loved flying as a little boy and his first flight was with his dad when he was five. Neil was also a part of the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. When Neil went to the moon, he carried his World Scout Badge.
The Armstrong family eventually moved back to their hometown where Neil attended Blume High School. Neil earned his flight certificate at the age 15, before he even had a driver's licence. Neil began college at Purdue University in 1947. He eventually earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and was awarded Honorary doctorates buy different universities.
